MOV to MP3

Convert MOV to MP3 from your iPhone, iPad or Mac in the browser. Free, unlimited, no sign-up, and your video never leaves your device.

Your file is converted in your browser and never uploaded to our servers.

How to convert MOV to MP3

Three steps, all inside this tab. Nothing is sent to a server at any point.

  1. 1

    Drop in your MOV file

Drag an iPhone clip, a QuickTime screen recording or any other .mov file onto the box, or tap to pick one. The first conversion downloads the converter once, about 9 MB, and your browser keeps it for next time.

  2. 2

    Pick the format and quality

MP3 at 192 kbps is the default and suits most listening. Choose 128 kbps for a smaller voice file, 320 kbps for music, or WAV if you plan to edit the audio.

  3. 3

    Save the audio

The file keeps its original name with the new extension, so IMG_4021.MOV becomes IMG_4021.mp3. Convert the next clip the same way.

Why use this MOV to MP3 converter

Your video is never uploaded

FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly, runs inside your browser and reads the MOV straight from your device. Only the audio file is produced, and it is saved back to your device.

Free with no limit on files

There is no daily cap, no account, no watermark and no email step. Convert one clip or fifty, one after another.

Names stay sortable

Camera-roll names carry over to the audio file. A folder of IMG_ numbers still lines up with the videos they came from.

Clear answer for silent clips

If a MOV has no audio track at all, you get the message "This video has no audio track" instead of an empty MP3.

What people convert from MOV to MP3

Most MOV files come from Apple devices, and the sound is often the only part worth keeping.

Voice notes filmed as video

You hit record in the Camera app to capture an idea, a speech or a toast. The MP3 keeps the words without the dark pocket footage.

iPhone screen recordings

Keep the sound of an app demo, a game clip or a tutorial you narrated with the microphone switched on.

Concert and rehearsal clips

Phone footage of a gig or band practice becomes a track you can play in the car or send to bandmates. Pick 320 kbps here.

Lectures and talks

A class filmed on an iPad turns into audio for review on a walk or commute, at a fraction of the video's size.

QuickTime recordings on a Mac

Audio from a QuickTime Player movie recording, ready for a podcast edit or a transcription service. Choose WAV if you'll edit it.

Interviews and family stories

Private conversations stay private, because the clip is converted on your own device rather than on a stranger's server.

What's inside an iPhone MOV file

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. A clip from an iPhone holds a video track and, almost always, an AAC audio track: the same lossy family of codecs as MP3.

That matters for quality. Turning that AAC audio into MP3 can keep what is there, but it can't add detail the phone never captured. So 320 kbps from a voice memo only makes a bigger file, while 192 kbps already sounds the same as the source for most listening. If you'll cut, mix or clean up the audio later, export WAV: it stores the decoded audio as 16-bit PCM, so your edits start from the full signal.

Before you convert .mov to MP3

A minute of prep saves a second round.

  • Play the clip first and check you can hear the sound you want to keep.
  • Use 128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps for everyday listening and 320 kbps for music.
  • Choose WAV instead of MP3 when the audio is going into an editor.
  • Pick M4A if the file is only for Apple Music, iPhone or iPad playback.
  • Move long 4K clips to a computer with AirDrop or a cable before converting.
  • If the clip has several audio tracks, know that only the first one is converted.

Common MOV to MP3 mistakes

  • Mistake: Renaming IMG_1234.MOV to IMG_1234.mp3 in Finder or Files.

Do this instead: That only changes the label. Convert the file so the audio is actually re-encoded as MP3.

  • Mistake: Picking 320 kbps for a voice recording to make it sound better.

Do this instead: Higher bitrate can't beat the source. 128 or 192 kbps sounds the same and takes far less space.

  • Mistake: Converting a huge 4K video on an older phone.

Do this instead: Phones with little memory can fail on very large files. Use a desktop browser for big clips.

  • Mistake: Uploading a private recording to a random converter site.

Do this instead: Many online converters send your file to their servers. A browser-only converter keeps it on your device.

  • Mistake: Expecting sound from a clip recorded with no audio.

Do this instead: If the MOV has no audio track, there is nothing to extract. The tool tells you so instead of saving a silent file.

Privacy, cost and limits

What happens to your MOV

It is read in your browser and never uploaded. The only download is the open-source FFmpeg converter itself, served from the jsDelivr CDN.

What it costs

Nothing. Every conversion is free and unlimited, with no sign-up, watermark or paid tier.

Honest limits

One file at a time, first audio track only. We haven't measured a maximum file size, so big clips are safest in a desktop browser.
