How to Convert MP4 to MP3

  1. 1

    Choose your MP4

Drop the file on the box or tap to pick one. MP4 and M4V files from Android phones, cameras, screen recorders and video editors all work.

  2. 2

    Pick a format and bitrate

MP3 at 192 kbps is preselected and suits most listening. Choose 320 kbps for music, 128 kbps for speech, or switch to M4A or WAV.

  3. 3

    Convert and save

The first run downloads the converter once, about 9 MB. The audio keeps the video's name, so VID_20260412_183015.mp4 becomes VID_20260412_183015.mp3.

Why Use This MP4 to MP3 Converter

The video stays on your device

FFmpeg runs inside your browser tab as WebAssembly. Your MP4 is read locally and never uploaded; only the audio file is written. Many online converters send the whole video to their servers first.

Free, with no cap

No account, no email, no watermark and no daily limit. Convert as many files as you like, one after another.

Three formats, three bitrates

MP3 or M4A at 128, 192 or 320 kbps, or uncompressed 16-bit WAV when the audio is headed for an editor.

Loads once, then stays ready

The converter comes from the jsDelivr CDN on first use. Your browser caches it, so the next file starts without that download.

Clear when there is no sound

If the MP4 has no audio track, you see "This video has no audio track" instead of getting a silent MP3.

MP3, M4A or WAV: Which Output to Pick

All three come from the same MP4 audio track. Sizes are worked out from the bitrate, for one minute of audio.

What People Convert MP4 to MP3 For

Android phone clips

Keep the song from a concert clip or a school recital you filmed, and play it in any music app without the video.

Camera and action cam footage

Many mirrorless and action cameras record MP4. Save the speech from a wedding or the sound of a trail ride as audio.

Lectures you recorded

Turn a class or conference talk you filmed into a file for the commute. 128 kbps is plenty for one voice.

Call and meeting recordings

Many video call apps save recordings as MP4. An audio file is lighter to archive or send to a transcription service.

Ringtones from your own clips

Convert a moment you recorded, trim it in any audio editor, and set it as an Android ringtone.

Your own video exports

Need the voice-over or soundtrack of a video you edited? Convert the exported MP4 instead of rendering again.

MP4 Format to MP3: What Actually Changes

MP4 is a container, not a sound format. A phone or camera MP4 usually holds an H.264 or H.265 video stream and an AAC audio stream, packed with timing and metadata; that is the kind of file we test this converter on. Converting MP4 format to MP3 means dropping the video and re-encoding that AAC audio with the LAME MP3 encoder.

AAC is already compressed, so the MP3 can match the source but never beat it. A higher bitrate makes the file bigger; it does not bring back detail the phone discarded when it recorded. Pick the bitrate for how you will listen, not the biggest number on the button.

If the file carries more than one audio track, such as a second language, the converter takes the first one.

Common MP4 to MP3 Mistakes

  • Mistake: Choosing 320 kbps to improve a phone recording.

Do this instead: The AAC track cannot gain detail. 192 kbps covers most phone clips; keep 320 for music you want to archive.

  • Mistake: Chaining lossy conversions, such as MP4 to MP3 and then MP3 to M4A.

Do this instead: Each lossy step drops a little more. Go from the original MP4 straight to the format you need.

  • Mistake: Editing an MP3 and exporting another MP3.

Do this instead: If you will cut, mix or add effects, convert to WAV first and export a compressed file once at the end.

  • Mistake: Converting a long 4K camera file on an older phone.

Do this instead: Very large files can run out of memory on phones. Use a desktop browser for long or high-resolution recordings.

  • Mistake: Picking MP3 for a library that only lives on Apple devices.

Do this instead: M4A plays natively in Apple Music and on iPhone, and stays in the same AAC family as the MP4's audio.

  • Mistake: Converting an export that was saved without sound.

Do this instead: If you see "This video has no audio track", export the video again with audio turned on.

Privacy, Price and Limits

Nothing is uploaded

Cloudflare hosts the page and jsDelivr serves the open-source converter files. Your video goes to neither; it is converted on your own device.

Free and unlimited

There is no quota, no premium tier and no sign-up.

Honest limits

One file at a time, with no trimming or volume tools. We have not measured a maximum file size, so for very large recordings use a computer.
